Perplexity brings its AI to online stores

Perplexity is introducing Computer workflows for online stores, with connections to Shopify, Meta and Klaviyo. The agent can analyze sales and prepare pages, ads and emails, while leaving approvals and spending limits in the hands of the team.

Perplexity wants online stores to move from identifying a sales opportunity to launching a complete campaign without coordinating each task separately. To do this, it is introducing new workflows for Perplexity Computer, its AI agent for managing digital processes.

The tool can connect to Shopify, Meta and Klaviyo to analyze products, create landing pages, prepare ads and draft email campaigns. Everything starts with a business instruction, such as promoting a new collection with a specific discount and budget.

This does not mean letting AI publish content and spend money without oversight. Businesses can define objectives, limits and steps that require approval before they are carried out, such as publishing a page, sending emails or activating ads.

From sales data to a complete campaign

The process begins in Shopify. Computer can review sales data from the last 30 days, identify which products or collections have the most potential and recommend what should be promoted.

Based on that recommendation, it creates a landing page with the products, offer and brand design. The team can review the result and make final changes directly in Shopify's editor before publishing it.

The idea is to reduce the work normally required to go from a spreadsheet of data to a campaign ready to sell. Instead of analyzing sales, writing a page and preparing materials from scratch in different tools, the agent coordinates those tasks within a single workflow.

Ads for Meta and emails for customers

With the page and offer defined, Computer can prepare a campaign for Meta. It uses product information, competitor data and the performance of previous ads to generate new advertising assets.

It can create static ads and produce variations of videos that have already performed well. It then prepares the campaign in Meta, uploads the ads with consistent names and connects them to the corresponding Shopify page.

It can also bring the same campaign to Klaviyo, an email marketing platform. There, it selects or builds an audience based on the objective, such as existing customers interested in a new collection.

Computer writes the email, applies the brand design, adds product information and links to the Shopify page. The team can review it before scheduling or sending it.

Set up the brand once

One of the central features is what Perplexity calls brand skills. The business can provide its design guidelines, communication style and other materials so Computer can apply them to pages, ads and emails.

Perplexity says Computer combines different AI models depending on the task: one may analyze sales, another may generate images or videos and another may prepare reports. The agent coordinates those capabilities and delivers the results within the workflow.

For a small store, this can save time on tasks that are usually spread across marketing, design, analysis and operations. But it does not remove the need to review decisions: a sales-based recommendation does not guarantee that a product will perform, and an AI-generated campaign still needs human oversight.

The most practical approach is to start with a specific task, such as analyzing sales and preparing a campaign for review. Then connect the necessary accounts and expand the workflow if the results fit the way the business works. The important question will be whether this coordination actually reduces the workload while maintaining brand quality as campaigns become more frequent.
