Grok launches automations for recurring tasks
Grok now includes automations that run tasks on a schedule or when an email arrives that matches specific filters. The feature is available to everyone on the web and mobile, while email triggers require SuperGrok.
Grok can now handle tasks on its own based on an instruction and a schedule. The Automations feature lets you schedule jobs, monitor incoming email, or launch processes manually from the web and the iOS and Android apps.
The idea is simple: describe a task once, choose when it should run, and Grok takes care of the rest. For example, it can prepare a news summary every morning at 8:00, remind you to pay the rent on the first of each month, or research a topic while you sleep.
How automations work
Each automation is set up like a normal chat message. You can:
- Write the instructions in your own words.
- Attach files to provide context.
- Add connectors and skills available in Grok.
- Choose the name, schedule, and how you want to receive the results.
Schedules can be one-time, daily, Monday through Friday, weekly, monthly, or yearly. They run according to the time zone you choose. Each time it runs, Grok receives a new request with the same instructions, but works with current data.
You can also create automations triggered by email. In that case, Grok monitors your inbox and starts when a message matches your filters, such as the sender, recipient, or subject line.
This can help you identify invoices, review messages from a specific client, or flag emails related to a project. The email itself is added as context, so Grok responds to the actual message rather than a generic description.
Results, history, and control
When an automation is triggered, Grok opens a real conversation, does the work, and saves the result in the execution history. You can open any of them to read the full thread or continue the conversation from where it ended.
You also decide how to receive the result:
- By email.
- Through an in-app notification.
- Through both channels.
- Without notifications, so you can review the history whenever you want.
The Run now option lets you test an automation immediately after creating it. You can also pause, reactivate, edit, or delete it at any time.
Grok can also create an automation directly from chat. An instruction such as checking the news every morning and flagging any updates about prices can become a scheduled task. The Automations page includes templates so you can get started without configuring everything from scratch.
Scheduled automations are available to all users at grok.com and in the mobile apps. Email-based triggers are part of SuperGrok.
The important change is that Grok is no longer limited to responding when you write to it. It can now return to a task on its own, use up-to-date information, and notify you only when there is something to review. What you need to watch is the quality of your instructions and the permissions granted to connectors: the more autonomy it has, the more important it becomes to define precisely what it can access and when it should notify you.
