Grok comes to Word for drafting and information search
Grok is coming to Microsoft Word through a free Microsoft 365 add-in that drafts, rewrites, and corrects text while searching the web for information. It can also consult X, generate diagrams, and work with connected emails and files from SharePoint or Google Drive.
Grok can now work inside Microsoft Word. The new add-in can turn notes into structured text, draft documents, and rewrite content to improve its clarity, concision, and grammar.
The tool works from written instructions, known as prompts. You can give it an initial set of ideas and ask it to turn them into a longer text, such as a proposal, guide, or reference document.
It can also adapt a document’s style so multiple authors maintain a consistent way of writing. That is useful, for example, when a report has been edited by several people and needs to read like a single piece.
Web research inside the document
Grok for Word can also search the internet and bring data or references directly into the document. It can additionally consult X posts and generate diagrams to add to your files.
The feature is designed to reduce the constant switching between applications. Instead of opening a browser to research something and then copying the results into Word, you can ask Grok to handle part of that work from within the document itself.
The company also says the add-in can use connectors to work with information from other tools. Depending on the available configuration, you can ask it to draft content from:
- Recent emails.
- Files saved in SharePoint.
- Documents stored in Google Drive.
That expands its use beyond writing from scratch. For example, a proposal draft could be prepared from recent email conversations and internal documents, without having to gather all the material manually.
How to access Grok for Word
Grok for Word is a free Microsoft 365 add-in. You install it from Microsoft Marketplace, and it works directly inside Word documents.
The integration is not limited to Word. It is also available for PowerPoint and Excel. In those applications, the goal is to bring the same drafting, information lookup, and work assistance capabilities to presentations and spreadsheets.
For you, the main change is that Grok is no longer just a separate conversational tool. It is becoming part of the usual workflow in Office. It can help you start a document, revise it, or fill in information, but you should always review its results, especially when it introduces data from the web or connected files.
