Google brings Gemini 3 Flash to its AI app

Google is starting to bring Gemini 3 Flash to the Gemini app with a clear promise: faster responses without giving up the ability to handle complex tasks.

The new model aims to close the gap between powerful systems, which tend to be slower and more expensive, and fast models, which usually provide less detailed answers. According to Google, Gemini 3 Flash combines both strengths.

Two ways to use it

Gemini 3 Flash arrives with two response modes in the app:

• Fast: responds quickly to everyday questions, summaries, and simple tasks.
• Thinking: spends more time reasoning when a problem requires multiple steps or deeper analysis.

In practice, you can use Fast to draft a message or summarize a text, then switch to Thinking to analyze a document, solve a complex problem, or compare several options.

Google says the model offers a level of reasoning comparable to that of larger models, including on tasks that require advanced knowledge. That is the company's claim, not a guarantee that it will always be right.

It also understands images, audio, and video

Gemini 3 Flash expands its multimodal capabilities. This means it can work with text, images, audio, and video within the same conversation.

For example, you can ask it to explain a chart, summarize a recording, analyze what happens in a video, or combine a photo with written instructions. Its usefulness depends on whether the app can access the content and how accurately the model interprets it.

Gemini 3 Flash starts rolling out in the Gemini app on December 17, 2025. Availability may vary depending on your account, country, and the pace at which the service is activated.

Gemini 3 Pro remains available

Google is keeping Gemini 3 Pro in the app's model selector, now with the Pro label. The company presents it as the preferred option for advanced math and programming tasks.

For you, the main change is that you no longer have to choose between speed and capability every time. You can use Flash for most everyday tasks and turn to Pro when you need more depth in math or code.

The important thing will be seeing how Gemini 3 Flash performs outside demos: if it maintains that combination of speed and reasoning in real conversations, it could become the default option for working with text, images, audio, and video in a single app.
