Gemini Spark Comes to macOS and Connects to More Apps

Gemini Spark can now work beyond the chat: Google is bringing it to macOS, connecting it to more applications and adding real-time topic tracking. The goal is not just to answer questions, but to carry out specific tasks using the files and services you use.

An Assistant That Acts on Your Mac

The macOS version can organize files and coordinate information between your computer and Google Workspace. For example, you can ask it to sort all the PDFs in your Downloads folder and move them to specific directories.

It can also use invoices saved on your computer to create a budgeting spreadsheet and schedule regular updates. Spark only accesses files you give it permission to use, according to Google.

The Mac app is available in beta in the United States for Google AI Ultra subscribers over 18. Google plans to add a feature later that lets you start tasks from your phone and have Spark complete them on your computer while you are away.

One example of this feature, which is still coming later, would be asking it from your phone to find a sales report on your Mac, extract the total revenue and email it to you.

More Connected Apps

Spark is expanding its connections with services you already use. It can now work with Google Tasks and Google Keep, for example, turning disorganized notes in Keep into specific tasks in Tasks.

It also adds integrations with:

• Canva, to create designs and brochures
• Dropbox, to access and share files
• Instacart, to order your weekly groceries
• OpenTable, to book restaurants
• Zillow Rentals, to search for and schedule apartment viewings

These features will roll out over the next week on the web and mobile versions of Gemini Spark. The macOS app will receive them in the following weeks.

Google is also adding support for custom MCP. MCP is a standard that connects external applications and services to an AI assistant, allowing each user to create a setup that better fits their needs.

Alerts for News, Finance and Sports

Another new feature is automatic topic tracking. Instead of checking a page over and over, you can ask Spark to monitor a source or topic and react when something relevant happens.

For example, it can send you a summary and analysis when your team’s game ends, prepare a financial report if a stock reaches a certain price or alert you to updates from specific sources.

Tracking now covers blogs, news outlets, social media, finance, shopping, weather and sports, as well as email.

For you, the important change is that Gemini Spark is moving closer to an assistant that can execute complete processes: organizing documents, turning notes into tasks, monitoring information and coordinating services. The limits are still permissions, availability by country and compatible applications. The next thing to check is how reliably it can carry out these actions when a task involves multiple steps.
