Gemini Live takes AI from your voice to your tasks

Gemini Live can now turn a spoken conversation into tasks that run on their own. Google is adding productivity features that connect your voice to Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Drive and the web, without making you open each app separately.

The update adds agent capabilities through Spark, a system that can break a complex request into several steps and keep working in the background. It can also remember the goal of a task and run scheduled jobs for days or weeks, even when you are not using Gemini.

From a rough idea to a useful document

You can tell Gemini an idea while you are walking, driving or doing something else. If you talk about a project without following a particular order, Spark can identify the main topics and turn them into a structured outline in Google Docs for you to return to later.

You can also ask it to maintain a weekly meal plan for your family. For example, it can prepare a high-protein vegetarian menu and create a shopping list from recipes saved in your documents.

The key is that you do not have to learn special commands. Speak normally and Gemini handles turning the conversation into concrete actions.

A summary of your day to start the morning

Gemini Live also adds access to the Daily Brief, a spoken summary of the most important parts of your day. Just say: “What’s my daily brief?”

Gemini combines relevant information from Gmail and Calendar to tell you what you have planned and what needs your attention. You can review your day while making breakfast, without looking at a screen or searching for information across several apps.

You can manage Gmail with your voice

The update adds hands-free actions for organizing email. You can ask “Do I have any new emails?” or search for urgent messages, such as notices from your children’s school.

During the conversation, Gemini can:

• Search and summarize emails.
• Highlight important messages.
• Archive messages.
• Delete emails.

According to Google, 63% of users talk to Gemini out loud, a sign that this type of interaction is already part of how people regularly use the assistant.

Gemini remembers context across conversations

Gemini Live can also retrieve information from previous conversations and connected apps through Personal Intelligence. This lets you ask questions such as “What was the name of the restaurant we went to in New York last summer?” or “Can you pull up the recipe we talked about yesterday?”

To answer, Gemini can connect chat history with services such as Gmail, Photos, Search and YouTube. The result is meant to feel less like an isolated search and more like an assistant that understands the context of what you have already looked up.

One conversation for multiple tasks

You do not need to decide whether a request requires Spark, the daily brief or a Gmail search. Gemini Live tries to chain these functions together within the same conversation.

For example, you can ask what your day will look like. Gemini could summarize your schedule and mention invitations or sports calendars received by email. You could then ask it to find those events, create the family appointments in Calendar and include travel times. Spark would handle the longer process while you carry on with your morning.

To get started, connect your apps in Gemini’s Personal Intelligence settings. Then tap the Live icon in the app and start talking.

The important change is not just that Gemini understands voice better. A spoken request can now become a complete process, with memory and follow-up. What remains to watch is how much control you will have over those automated actions and how Gemini will review each step before changing your documents, calendars or emails.
