Gemini lets you import memories and chats from other AI apps
Gemini is starting to roll out tools for importing memories and conversations from other AI applications. You can transfer your preferences through a summary or upload a ZIP file with your complete history to continue your chats without starting from scratch.

Google now lets you bring the preferences, memories and conversation history you have in other AI applications into Gemini. The feature is starting to roll out to all consumer accounts and aims to remove one of the biggest obstacles to switching assistants: having to start from scratch.
Your preferences can move with you too
The new memory import option lets you transfer personal details another assistant already knows about you, such as your interests, a family member’s name or where you grew up.
The process does not require a direct integration with the other application. In Gemini’s settings, you choose the memory import option and receive an instruction to copy and paste into your current assistant. That application generates a summary of your preferences and context. You then paste the response into Gemini, which analyzes the information and saves it for use in future conversations.
In practice, this means you can ask Gemini to tailor its responses to your preferences without having to explain who you are, what plans you have or what kind of recommendations you prefer all over again.
You can take your conversations with you too
Google is adding a second option: importing your complete chat history from other AI providers. To do this, you will need to upload a ZIP file containing your conversations to Gemini.
Once imported, you will be able to search previous conversations and continue working on them from Gemini. For example, if you already compared hotels for a trip to Barcelona with another assistant, you could pick up that information instead of rebuilding the entire process.
This feature is connected to Gemini’s Personal Intelligence, which can use relevant information from Gmail, Photos, your search history and previous Gemini conversations when you give it permission to access those services.
What changes for you
The most important change is not a new ability to generate text or images. It is the lower cost of switching applications.
Until now, trying another assistant could mean losing months of accumulated context. With these tools, you can transfer some of that context through a summary generated by your current application or import your conversations directly.
Even so, it is worth reviewing what information you include. Your chats may contain personal data, documents, locations or details about other people. Before uploading a file or saving a memory, check that it contains only what you actually want to share with Gemini.
Google is also changing the name of the "past chats" feature to "memory", a change that will start appearing in the application over the next few weeks. Memory and conversation imports are already beginning to roll out through Gemini’s settings, although availability may depend on the account and the pace of the rollout.
