Gemini lets you edit documents and PDFs from chat
Gemini adds features for creating, previewing and editing documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, code and other files from chat. PDF editing is available on the web and mobile, while the other formats are currently available on the web version.

Gemini now lets you create, preview and edit documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, code and other files directly from a conversation.
The update turns chat into a more complete workspace. You can ask Gemini to generate a file, open it in full screen, make changes manually, highlight a passage to ask questions or request adjustments to the text and visual elements.
What you can do inside Gemini
From now on, you can:
- Create documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, Markdown files, TXT files and code.
- Preview files without leaving the conversation.
- Edit content directly in full-screen mode.
- Select specific sections to request changes or ask for clarification.
- Refine text and visual elements with new instructions.
Google uses the example of creating a study guide in PDF format from handwritten class notes. Gemini can turn those notes into a structured document and then let you correct it, highlight a section to modify it or ask questions about its content.
Which formats work on each device
PDF editing and previewing are available both on the web version and in the Gemini mobile app. The other formats currently have some limitations:
- Google Docs: available on the web.
- Google Sheets: available on the web.
- Presentations: available on the web.
- Markdown and TXT files: available on the web.
- Code: available on the web.
The feature is available to all users and in every language supported by the Gemini app.
In practice, this reduces how often you have to switch between the chatbot and a document editor. You can start with a request such as “create a presentation from these notes,” review the result and ask for changes to a specific section. Editing does not completely replace Docs, Sheets or PowerPoint, but it brings those tasks closer to the same place where you give instructions.
The important thing now is to see how far editing goes with complex files and how much control it offers over the final formatting. Gemini is no longer limited to responding with text. It is starting to work with documents you can review, modify and reuse.
