Claude integrates AI into Slack to search conversations
Anthropic is integrating Claude with Slack in two ways: inside conversations and as a connector for searching messages, files, and context from Claude apps. The feature is available to teams with paid plans, subject to administrator approval and controls.
Claude can now work inside Slack and search conversation history from its own apps. Anthropic has introduced two integration options so you can draft replies, prepare for meetings, or find information without constantly switching between tools.
Claude inside Slack
You can add Claude directly to your Slack workspace. From there, it offers the features already available, including web search, document analysis, and connections to other tools, such as documents and email accounts you have linked.
There are three ways to use it:
- Direct message: write to
@Claudeto ask for help with research, writing, or analysis. - AI assistant panel: open Claude from any channel without interrupting the ongoing conversation.
- Thread participation: mention
@Claudeso it can prepare a response based on the thread's context.
Claude does not automatically post responses in public conversations. It first prepares a private draft that you can review, edit, or regenerate before sharing it with the team.
Slack as a context source for Claude
The second option connects Slack to Claude apps. In this case, Claude can search the channels, direct messages, and shared files you have access to and use them to respond with more context.
That lets you, for example:
- Prepare for a meeting by gathering recent decisions, updates, and relevant documents.
- Review several channels to identify a project's progress, blockers, and outstanding tasks.
- Help a new team member understand a project's history and related conversations.
- Turn scattered discussions into more formal documentation.
In practice, you can ask Claude to find out what was decided about an initiative, who was assigned a task, or which problems remain open. Its usefulness depends on those conversations and files actually being in Slack and on you having permission to view them.
What happens to privacy
Claude respects Slack's existing permissions. It can only access the channels, conversations, and files the user is already authorized to view, including public and private spaces.
The integration maintains the security and privacy controls associated with the Claude account. Conversations also remain subject to each organization's retention policies and security settings.
Workspace administrators must approve the Claude app before users can sign in with their accounts. This makes it possible to control its use at the company level.
Who can use it
Claude inside Slack is available through the Slack Marketplace to teams with paid Slack plans. Installation requires prior approval from the workspace administrator.
The Slack connector for Claude apps is intended for customers on Claude Team and Claude Enterprise plans who have installed the app in Slack. In this case, the administrator must first enable the connector, after which each user can configure it from the Connectors tab in Claude's settings.
This does not automatically turn every company conversation into reliable knowledge. What changes is that Claude can work where decisions are already being made and, with the right permissions, retrieve that context when needed. The next thing to watch will be how companies manage access, data retention, and human review of generated responses.
