Claude expands its financial AI tools

Anthropic is expanding Claude for the financial sector with an Excel add-in, market data connectors and six specialized features for building models and reports. The updates are initially available as a preview for Max, Enterprise and Teams users.

Anthropic is expanding Claude for the financial sector with an Excel add-in, connections to real-time market data and new features for tasks such as company valuation, earnings analysis and investment report preparation.

The update brings Claude into tools that financial teams already use every day. It does more than answer questions: it can work with spreadsheets, consult approved external sources and follow specific analysis workflows.

Claude comes to Excel

Claude for Excel is launching in beta as a research preview. It appears in a sidebar inside Microsoft Excel and can read, analyze, modify and create workbooks.

The tool also explains the changes it makes. It can point out the cells it used, describe its reasoning and let you navigate directly to them. It also attempts to preserve the file's structure and the dependencies between formulas.

In practice, it can help you:

  • Detect and fix formula errors.
  • Fill templates with new data and assumptions.
  • Update financial models without rebuilding them from scratch.
  • Create a new spreadsheet from instructions.
  • Explain how a complex file works.

For now, the add-in is available as a preview for users on the Max, Enterprise and Teams plans. Anthropic will start with 1,000 users to collect feedback before expanding access.

More connected financial data

Anthropic is also adding connectors, which allow Claude to query external tools and platforms with controlled permissions. The new connections include:

  • Aiera, for real-time transcripts and summaries of earnings calls, shareholder meetings and investment events. It also includes interviews and analysis from Third Bridge.
  • Chronograph, with operational and financial data on portfolio companies for tracking and analyzing private investments.
  • Egnyte, for searching data room documents, financial models and approved internal files.
  • LSEG, with fixed-income, equity and foreign exchange prices, macroeconomic indicators and analyst estimates.
  • Moody’s, with credit ratings, research and data on more than 600 million public and private companies.
  • MT Newswires, with recent news about financial markets and economies around the world.

These connections do not give Claude automatic access to all of a company's information. Access depends on each organization's permissions and settings, which is especially important in banking, insurance and asset management.

Ready-to-use financial models

Anthropic is adding six new Agent Skills. These are packages of instructions, resources and scripts that help Claude carry out specific tasks more consistently:

  • Comparable company analysis, with valuation multiples and operating metrics.
  • Discounted cash flow models, with projections, weighted average cost of capital calculations and scenarios.
  • Information packages for due diligence before an investment or acquisition.
  • Company profiles and summaries for presentations and buyer lists.
  • Quarterly earnings analysis, including changes to forecasts and management commentary.
  • Initial coverage reports with analysis of the sector, company and its valuation.

These features are also in preview for Max, Enterprise and Teams users.

Anthropic says Sonnet 4.5 achieved 55.3% accuracy on Vals AI's Finance Agent benchmark, an external test focused on financial tasks. That figure describes its result on that benchmark. It does not guarantee that Claude will get 55.3% of any real-world analysis right.

For you, the most important change is that Claude can move from drafting a response to working inside a financial workflow: reviewing an Excel file, checking recent data and preparing a model with fewer manual tasks. Investment decisions, data checks and human oversight are still necessary, especially when client money and regulatory requirements are involved.

The next step will be seeing whether these features move out of preview and become broadly available across Claude plans. It will also be important to watch how companies manage permissions, change tracking and result reviews before using them in financial decisions.
